This resolution encourages the New Hampshire Congressional delegation to support the federal Child Custody Protection Act, relative to prohibiting taking minors across state lines in circumvention of laws requiring the involvement of parents in abortion decisions.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five

A RESOLUTION encouraging the New Hampshire Congressional delegation to support the federal Child Custody Protection Act.

Whereas, the Child Custody Protection Act, S. 8, was introduced in the United States Senate on January 24, 2005; and

Whereas, this important legislation was passed by the United States House of Representatives in 1999 and 2002; and

Whereas, the Child Custody Protection Act would prohibit the transportation of minors over state lines in circumvention of state laws requiring the involvement of parents in decisions concerning abortion; and

Whereas, this timely legislation would encourage parental involvement and family responsibility and would protect minors during a most vulnerable period in their lives, and

Whereas, the act would reduce jurisdictional challenges to the enforcement of state laws requiring the involvement of parents in abortion decisions and respect the right of states to adopt legislation governing such issues; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

That the general court hereby recommends and encourages the New Hampshire Congressional delegation to support passage of the Child Custody Protection Act by the 109th Congress, and

That copies of this resolution be sent by the senate clerk to each member of the New Hampshire Congressional delegation.
