AN ACT relative to an adult roles and responsibilities curriculum.

ANALYSIS

This bill requires the state board to establish a model adult roles and responsibilities curriculum to be distributed to school districts. The bill also requires that school districts review the curriculum and allows school districts to determine whether to adopt such curriculum.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six

AN ACT relative to an adult roles and responsibilities curriculum.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Section; Duties of State Board of Education; Adult Roles and Responsibilities. Amend RSA 189 by inserting after section 10 the following new section:

189:10-a Adult Roles and Responsibilities.

I. Within 3 months of the effective date of this act, the state board of education shall establish a model adult roles and responsibilities curriculum for grades 6-12 and shall distribute such model curriculum to each school district in the state. The model curriculum shall include, for grades 6-8, material on interpersonal relationships, human growth and development, personal financial literacy, career exploration, and foods and nutrition, and for grades 9-12, material on interpersonal relationships, communication and conflict resolutions, parenting, marriage, family issues, consumer and resource management, and personal financial literacy.

II. The school board of every school district shall, within 3 months of receiving the model curriculum from the state board of education, review and consider the model curriculum. A school board may adopt the model curriculum, and any changes that the school board determines are necessary to meet local needs, and shall forward a copy of any adopted adult roles and responsibilities curriculum to the state board of education.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
