AN ACT relative to parental notification of a parent or legal guardian of a child who has been provided with emergency contraception by a pharmacist.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six

AN ACT relative to parental notification of a parent or legal guardian of a child who has been provided with emergency contraception by a pharmacist.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; Procedures for Dispensing Emergency Contraception; Parental Notice. Amend RSA 318:47-e by inserting after paragraph VI the following new paragraph:

VII. If the pharmacist provides emergency contraception to a child less than 16 years of age, the pharmacist shall notify one of the child’s parents or a legal guardian of the child. Notification shall be by certified mail, sent within 48 hours of dispensing the drug. The notice shall include the name of the child, the common and scientific names of the drug, the dosage dispensed, a description of the drug’s possible side effects, the date dispensed, the name, address, and phone number of the pharmacy, and the name of the pharmacist.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect January 1, 2007.
