STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six

A RESOLUTION urging the United States to withdraw funding for the United Nations if the United Nations adopts a resolution in violation of the United States Constitution.

Whereas, the United Nations was founded in 1945 as a forum for member nations to resolve international, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian problems; and

Whereas, as the organization has evolved, membership has expanded from 51 nations to 191 nations of diverse interests and priorities, and

Whereas, as a member of the United Nations, the United States may be forced to support a position that is contrary to the fundamental rights and freedoms of the United States Constitution; and

Whereas, a recent example of this is consideration of a resolution to forbid private ownership of firearms; now therefore be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the New Hampshire general court respectfully requests that the United States Congress withdraw funding for the United Nations if the organization adopts a resolution to forbid private ownership of firearms or contrary to any other constitutionally guaranteed right; and

That a copy of this resolution, signed by the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate, be forwarded by the house clerk to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
