STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six
A RESOLUTION urging the university of New Hampshire to restore intercollegiate baseball and softball.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
Whereas, in 1997 the university of New Hampshire baseball program was dropped from the athletic program due to budget cuts and because, without adding softball, the school would have been out of compliance with NCAA regulations due to Title IX; and
Whereas, Title IX was implemented to help promote equality in university athletics and to allow women to have the same opportunities in athletics as men, and adding baseball and softball to the university of New Hampshire athletics program advances the goals of Title IX; and
Whereas, the addition of these 2 sports will promote the university athletic department, boost morale within the university community, and enhance the university’s athletics programs; and
Whereas, as the state’s flagship public institution of higher education, the university of New Hampshire will have the opportunity to showcase in-state athletes at this level; and
Whereas, no sports would attract student interest during the spring season like baseball and softball, and attending these functions will allow students to support their university in a safe and positive atmosphere and greatly enhance their college experience; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
That the university of New Hampshire is urged to undertake all measures necessary to restore intercollegiate baseball and softball to its athletics program.
