AN ACT relative to the terms general court of New Hampshire and state of New Hampshire in legislation.

ANALYSIS

This bill requires that bills, resolutions, and amendments drafted by the office of legislative services use the terms “General Court of New Hampshire” and “State of New Hampshire.”

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eight

AN ACT relative to the terms general court of New Hampshire and state of New Hampshire in legislation.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Section; Director of Legislative Services; Drafting of Legislation. Amend RSA 17-A by inserting after section 7 the following new section:

17-A:8 Drafting of Legislation; General Court of New Hampshire; State of New Hampshire. The office of legislative services in drafting all bills, resolutions, and amendments shall present the name of the state as the “State of New Hampshire,” and shall present the name of the legislature as the “General Court of New Hampshire.” Any recodification or revision of the Revised Statutes Annotated under RSA 17-A:1, III shall incorporate the terms wherever necessary.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
