STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seven

AN ACT increasing the appropriation to the firemen’s relief fund.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Insurance; Firemen’s Relief Fund; Amount Increased. Amend RSA 402:66 to read as follows:

402:66 Relief Fund. [Six] Forty thousand dollars of the amount received as the taxes imposed by RSA 400-A shall annually be set apart by the state treasurer, and kept distinct from all other funds, and shall be known as the firemen’s relief fund.

2 Firemen’s Relief Fund; Amount Increased. Amend RSA 402:67 to read as follows:

402:67 Expenditure. Such fund, in the month of May after its receipt, shall be paid over, upon the order of the governor, to the treasurer of the New Hampshire State Firemen’s Association, as trustee, and shall be devoted to, and paid out [for, the relief of any fireman injured or disabled in the discharge of his duty as fireman, who is a member in good standing in any regularly organized town or city fire company in this state belonging to said association and who is himself a member of said association, and] for the relief of the dependent parent, surviving spouse or children of [such] any fireman who is a member in good standing in any regularly organized town or city fire company in this state and whose death was occasioned by injuries received in the line of his or her duty as a fireman; said sum of [$6,000] $40,000 to be in full for any appropriation for any one year.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.

HB 374-FN-A - FISCAL NOTE

AN ACT increasing the appropriation to the fireman’s relief fund.

FISCAL IMPACT:

      The Insurance Department states this bill will increase state general fund expenditures by $34,000 in FY 2009 and each year thereafter. There will be no fiscal impact on county and local expenditures or state, county, and local revenue.

METHODOLOGY:

    The Department states current firemen’s relief fund statute requires $6,000 per year of revenues received under RSA 400-A be deposited into the firemen’s relief fund. This bill will increase the amount deposited into the firemen’s relief fund to $40,000, increasing the general fund expenditures by $34,000 per year.
