AN ACT relative to meetings of the supervisors of the checklist.

ANALYSIS

This bill allows voters to petition for a special meeting of the supervisors of the checklist for the purpose of receiving voter registrations at the place specified in the petition.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seven

AN ACT relative to meetings of the supervisors of the checklist.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Section; Special Meetings of the Supervisors of the Checklist. Amend RSA 654 by inserting after section 11 the following new section:

654:11-a Special Meetings of the Supervisors of the Checklist.

I. The supervisors of the checklist shall hold a special meeting for the purpose of receiving voter registrations upon written petition by 10 or more voters registered in the town, city, or ward requesting such meeting.

II. The supervisors of the checklist shall hold the special meeting at the location within the town, city, or ward specified in the petitions, provided that the location is available for the special meeting and is convenient for potential registrants.

III. The time of the special meeting shall be determined by the supervisors of the checklist, provided that:

(a) The special meeting shall not occur on a weekend or legal holiday.

(b) The special meeting shall last for at least 3 hours.

(c) The special meeting shall occur within 21 days of the receipt of the petitions by the clerk.

(d) Notice of the day, hour, and place of the special meeting of the supervisors of the checklist shall be provided to the clerk and shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the city or town at least 7 days prior to the special meeting.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
