STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eight

A RESOLUTION urging Congress to fully implement the Secure Fence Act of 2006.

Whereas, it is estimated that there are between 12 and 20 million people illegally residing in the United States; and

Whereas, it is estimated that half a million people per year illegally enter the United States at the southern border; and

Whereas, the 12 to 20 million people illegally residing in the United States impose a heavy financial and social burden on the citizens and taxpayers of the United States, including, but not limited to a net cost to the American taxpayer of $10.4 billion each year at the federal level, plus it is also estimated that state and local governments spend $4 billion each year on health care and $20 to 24 billion each year on education for illegal aliens and their children; and

Whereas, 25 percent of the federal prison population are illegal aliens; and

Whereas, illegal immigration accounts for a substantial portion of the country’s population increase, leading to a corresponding increase in the impact on resources and the environment; and

Whereas, the illegal alien competes with, and depresses the wages and economic opportunities of, the most vulnerable citizens and legal residents who occupy the lower economic strata; and

Whereas, the United States of America is engaged in a war to combat global terrorism, and an unprotected border, along with the daily influx of thousands of unknown individuals adding to the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens already in the United States, presents a clear and present danger to the safety and well-being of the nation; and

Whereas, it is the most fundamental duty of any government to defend its nation’s borders, to protect its citizens, and to defend the sovereignty of the nation; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the state of New Hampshire requests that the Administration immediately and fully comply with the provisions of the Secure Fence Act of 2006, Public Law 109-367, and that the Congress of the United States provide sufficient funding to allow complete compliance with the legislation and completion of the 700 mile fence; and

That Congress pass and the President sign supplemental legislation to extend the security fence to fully protect the 1951 mile border; and

That copies of this resolution be sent by the house clerk to the President of the United States and to each member of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
