STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine

AN ACT requiring a financial literacy component within the high school economics course.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; State Board of Education; Financial Literacy. Amend RSA 186:11 by inserting after paragraph XXXVI the following new paragraph:

XXXVII. FINANCIAL LITERACY. Adopt rules, pursuant to RSA 541-A, requiring a financial literacy component to be taught to all high school pupils as part of the high school economics course to enable pupils to make informed decisions regarding the use and management of money. This component shall, at a minimum, consist of the following topics: budgeting, checking and savings accounts, understanding credit, basic investing, home purchase, basic insurance issues, introduction to federal and state taxes, and consumer rights and protection.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
