STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine

A RESOLUTION urging Congress to enact a system of voluntary public funding for all federal elections.

Whereas, the United States of America will fail to meet its most daunting challenges if we continue to allow our elections for Congress and the President to be paid for by special interests; and

Whereas, our leaders must be accountable to the voters, not to special interests; and

Whereas, our leaders must be elected on their ability, experience, and character, not their skill at raising campaign funds; and

Whereas, once our leaders are free of the time consuming burden of fundraising, they will be better able to focus on the nation's business: and

Whereas, every citizen must have an equal opportunity to participate in the political system; now therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the New Hampshire general court formally declares its support for the enactment in the United States Congress of a system of voluntary public funding for all federal elections; and

That the house clerk transmit copies of this resolution to each member of the New Hampshire congressional delegation, so that they may be apprised of the sentiments of the New Hampshire general court on this matter.
