AN ACT relative to urology patients.

ANALYSIS

This bill requires the board of medicine to develop a patients’ bill of rights specific to urology patients. The board shall also appoint a person to serve as an independent outside advocate to counsel patients who have been abused or exploited by a urologist.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine

AN ACT relative to urology patients.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; Board of Medicine; Duty Added. Amend RSA 329:2 by inserting after paragraph IV the following new paragraph:

V. The board shall develop by rule a patients’ bill of rights specific to urology patients. The board shall also appoint a person to perform the duties of an independent outside patient advocate to counsel patients who have been abused or exploited by a urologist. The patient advocate shall notify the board, without violating the patient’s privacy, if more than one complaint of the same nature occurs concerning the same doctor’s behavior indicating a pattern of abuse.

2 New Paragraph; Rulemaking Added. Amend RSA 329:9 by inserting after paragraph XV-a the following new paragraph:

XV-aa. Content of a patients’ bill of rights specific to urology patients and the duties of a patient advocate for urology patients as required by RSA 329:2, V.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
