STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eleven

AN ACT establishing an interdepartmental public health and environmental coordinating committee.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Statement of Intent. The general court recognizes that there is a need for discussion of public health and environmental issues among a variety of experts to address such issues in New Hampshire. Therefore, the general court hereby establishes an interdepartmental public health and environmental coordinating committee.

2 New Chapter; Interdepartmental Public Health and Environmental Coordinating Committee. Amend RSA by inserting after chapter 125-S the following new chapter:

CHAPTER 125-T

INTERDEPARTMENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH

AND ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE

125-T:1 Committee Established; Membership; Compensation.

I. The interdepartmental public health and environmental coordinating committee is hereby created and established. The committee shall consist of the following members:

(a) The commissioner of the department of health and human services, or designee.

(b) The commissioner of the department of environmental services, or designee.

(c) The commissioner of the department of transportation, or designee.

(d) The attorney general, or designee.

II. Members of the committee serve without compensation.

III. The committee shall meet twice a year at the call of the chairperson. The members of the committee shall elect a chairperson from among the members and the chairperson shall rotate among the departments annually.

IV. The committee shall ensure that major policy, regulatory, and program initiatives consider public health issues. Each member of the committee may submit agenda items for consideration by the committee.

125-T:2 Report. The committee shall submit an annual report commencing on January 1, 2012, together with any recommendations, to the speaker of the house of representatives, the president of the senate, and the governor.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
