STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twelve

A RESOLUTION urging Congress to propose an amendment to the United States Constitution to abolish the electoral college.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

Whereas, under Article II, section one of the Constitution of the United States, it is the function of the Electoral College to elect the President and Vice President of the United States; and

Whereas, electing the President and the Vice President by means of a small group of Presidential electors representing the states of the United States is not the most democratic or representative method which may be used; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

That the general court of New Hampshire respectfully urges the Congress of the United States to propose an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to abolish the electoral college and to provide for electing the President and Vice President of the United States by popular vote; and

That copies of this resolution be sent by the house clerk to the President of the United States, to the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, to the President of the United States Senate, and to the New Hampshire members of both Houses of Congress.
