STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fourteen
A RESOLUTION recognizing the Honor and Remember Flag as a symbol of the service and sacrifice of the armed forces.
Whereas, the United States Flag represents several aspects of our nation’s history in many ways; and
Whereas, the United States military has defended our nation and proudly holds the symbol of our nation in the United States Flag as a reminder of our nation’s history and accomplishments in defending a nation’s freedom and liberty; and
Whereas, while war deaths have been a part of our heritage since the birth of this nation; and
Whereas, this resolution is in support of the Honor and Remember Flag, to recognize and honor fallen members of the armed forces to their family, friends and the state of New Hampshire; and
Whereas, the Honor and Remember Flag’s red field represents the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for freedom; and
Whereas, the Honor and Remember Flag blue star is a symbol of active service in military conflict that dates back to World War I; and
Whereas, the Honor and Remember Flag white border recognizes the purity of sacrifice; and
Whereas, the Honor and Remember Flag gold star signifies the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who is not returning home and reflects the value of the life given; and
Whereas, the Honor and Remember Flag folded flag element highlights this nation’s tribute to a fallen member of the armed forces and his or her family’s sacrifice; and
Whereas, the Honor and Remember Flag flame symbolizes the eternal spirit of the departed; and
Whereas, the New Hampshire general court hereby acknowledges the Honor and Remember Flag which affirms this nation’s solemn debt to the estimated 1,600,000 members of the armed forces throughout history and the families and communities who have mourned their loss; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the New Hampshire house of representatives hereby recognizes that the Honor and Remember Flag may be flown by the citizens of the state of New Hampshire in recognition of the service and sacrifice by the brave men and women of the United States armed forces who have given their lives in the line of duty to their families, friends, and the people of New Hampshire; and
That copies of this resolution be forwarded by the house clerk by both email and hard copy to the director of the state office of veterans services and to each member of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
