AN ACT relative to the commandant of the veterans’ home.

ANALYSIS

This bill limits the appointment of the commandant of the veterans’ home to a 3-year renewable term and requires the commandant to be a veteran unless the board of managers votes otherwise.

This bill was requested by the committee to study the laws relating to the New Hampshire veterans home which was established by 2014, 88 (HB 1136).

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fifteen

AN ACT relative to the commandant of the veterans’ home.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Commandant; Appointment. Amend RSA 119:6 to read as follows:

119:6 Commandant and Employees.

I. The board shall appoint, or may remove, for just cause, a commandant of the home. The commandant shall be an honorably discharged veteran as defined in RSA?119:1, unless the board votes that the position may be filled by a nonveteran. The commandant shall serve a 3-year term, which may be renewed by the board.

II. Honorably discharged veterans as defined in RSA 119:1 shall have preference for employment in the home if qualified by the New Hampshire division of personnel.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
