STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Sixteen

A RESOLUTION\turging support of the 65/25 initiative in New Hampshire.

\tWhereas, a group of New Hampshire public and private sector leaders of the New Hampshire Coalition for Business and Education (NHCBE) has endorsed and committed to a statewide workforce enhancement goal whereby 65 percent of the state's working age population will hold a postsecondary credential or degree by the year 2025; and

\tWhereas, the current postsecondary credential and degree attainment level of the state's adult population is approximately 51 percent with almost no forecast growth due to the declining number of high school graduates and "baby boomers" aging out of the workforce; and

\tWhereas, the 65/25 goal is designed as an effort to improve the quality of, access to, and relevance of education of New Hampshire citizens of all ages so that they have the education necessary to meet their life goals as well as the economic needs of the state; and

\tWhereas, one of the driving forces for NHCBE in setting this goal for the workforce is the fact that according to the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce, 68 percent of New Hampshire jobs will require postsecondary education by 2020, compared to the national estimate of 65 percent; and

\tWhereas, the 65/25 goal will include all the education stepping stones that lead to college, including early childhood learning and secondary school education; and

\tWhereas, the community college system of New Hampshire has already been promoting the 65/25 goal and using it to set its strategic direction; and

\tWhereas, the university system of New Hampshire has endorsed attainment of the 65/25 goal as a priority; now, therefore, be it

\tResolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

\tThat the community college system of New Hampshire has adopted the goals of the 65/25 initiative and is using those goals to set strategic direction, and the university system of New Hampshire has endorsed attainment of the 65/25 goal as a priority; and

\tThat the house clerk shall forward copies of this resolution to the governor, the speaker of the New Hampshire house of representatives, the senate president, and the senate clerk.
