STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Sixteen

 

AN ACT\trequiring the commissioner and deputy commissioner of the department of education to be confirmed by a joint session of the general court.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

\t1  Department of Education; Commissioner; Deputy Commissioner.  Amend RSA 21-N:3, I to read as follows:

\t\tI.  The governor, after consultation with the board of education, shall [appoint the] nominate a commissioner and [the] a deputy commissioner of the department of education with the consent of council.  Each nominee shall be confirmed by a majority vote of the members of the general court assembled in joint session.  Each shall serve for a term of 4 years.  The commissioner and the deputy commissioner may succeed himself or herself, if [reappointed] renominated and reconfirmed.  The commissioner and deputy commissioner shall be qualified to hold their positions by reason of education and experience.

\t2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
