\tThis bill names the lobby of the legislative office building after former speaker of the house of representatives George Roberts.  This bill also requires that naming of areas of the state house complex be recommended for approval by the joint committee on legislative facilities and approved by the house of representatives and the senate.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fifteen

 

AN ACT\tnaming the lobby of the legislative office building after former speaker of the house George Roberts and relative to naming areas of the state house complex.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

\t1  Legislative Findings.  George Roberts served 14 years in the New Hampshire house of representatives including being elected as speaker of the house from 1975 through 1980.  He was actively involved in the National Conference of State Legislatures from its creation in 1975 and served as its president in 1979-80.  Among his many legislative initiatives include the renovation of the Old Post Office as the Legislative Office Building of today.  Therefore in recognition of his many contributions to the citizens of New Hampshire and the New Hampshire legislature, the general court hereby names the lobby of the Legislative Office Building the George Roberts Hall.

\t2  Legislative Office Building; George Roberts Hall.  The lobby of the Legislative Office Building is hereby named George Roberts Hall, for former speaker of the house, the Honorable George Roberts.

\t3  New Section; Joint Legislative Facilities Committee; Naming of Areas of State House Complex.  Amend RSA 17-E by inserting after section 7 the following new section:

\t17-E:8  Naming of Areas of State House Complex.  No area within the state house complex, including buildings, interior rooms, and grounds shall be named or renamed unless the proposed name is recommended for approval by the joint committee on legislative facilities and approved by both the house of representatives and the senate.

\t4  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
