AN ACT relative to temporary license plates.

ANALYSIS

 

This bill permits any New Hampshire resident who purchases a motor vehicle from another individual to display an existing valid New Hampshire license plate registered in their name for a period of 5 days from the date of sale.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Two

 

AN ACT relative to temporary license plates.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  New Section; Temporary Use of Existing License Plates.  Amend RSA 261 by inserting after section 57-b the following new section:

261:57-c.  Temporary Use of Existing License Plates

I.  Notwithstanding RSA 261:176, any resident of this state who purchases a motor vehicle in another state from another person, or who is unable to register a vehicle because of limited hours of operation of the town clerk in the town where the person resides, may display an existing valid New Hampshire license plate registered in their name for a period of 5 days from the date of sale.  This paragraph shall not apply to vehicles purchased from a dealership.

II.  The director shall adopt rules pursuant to RSA 541-A to administer this section.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
