STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Two
AN ACT relative to physical education in schools.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 Education; Requirements for Physical Education in Schools. Amend RSA 189:10 to read as follows:
189:10 Studies; Health and Physical Education. The school board shall ensure that health education and physical education are taught to pupils as part of the basic curriculum. Physical education shall be provided so that an elementary school pupil engages in a course of physical education for a minimum of 150 minutes per week and a middle school or high school pupil engages in a course of physical education for a minimum of 225 minutes per week. The school board shall ensure that all studies prescribed by the state board of education are thoroughly taught, especially physiology, hygiene, and health and physical education as they relate to the effects of alcohol and other drugs, child abuse as established in the definition of "abused child" under RSA 169-C:3, II, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and sexually transmitted diseases on the human system. The department of education shall survey school districts biennially to receive reports on compliance with this section, and provide the report to the president of the senate, speaker of the house of representatives, the chairpersons of the senate and house committees with jurisdiction over education, the senate committee with jurisdiction over health and human services, and the house committee with jurisdiction over child and family law
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
