STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five

AN ACT allowing towns with town charters to have wards.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Town Wards. Amend RSA 44:4 to read as follows:

44:4 Wards. Each ward into which a city or town may be divided by law, or in pursuance of law, shall be a town for the purpose of the election of governor, councilor, state senator, representative to the general court, all county officers, senator and representative in congress, and electors of president and vice-president of the United States, and in all matters relating to jurors.

2 New Section; Town Wards. Amend RSA 49-D by inserting after section 5 the following new section:

49-D:6 Wards. A charter adopted pursuant to this chapter may divide the town into wards in the same manner as a city under RSA 44:4 though RSA 44:7, and the general laws relative to wards of cities, officers of such wards, and voters, checklists, and elections shall be applicable to such wards.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
