STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six

AN ACT relative to charter commissions.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Charter Revisions, Adoptions, Procedure by Petition; Period Between Charter Commissions. Amend RSA 49-B:3, II to read as follows:

II. On the written petition of a number of voters equal to at least 20 percent of the number of votes cast in the municipality at the last regular municipal election, but in no case less than 10 voters, the municipal officers shall, by order, provide for the establishment of a charter commission for the revision of the municipal charter or for the preparation of a new municipal charter in the form and manner provided in this chapter. No charter commission shall be established sooner than 5 years after any prior charter commission has filed its final report.

2 New Paragraph; Charter Revisions, Adoptions, Procedure; Period Between Charter Commissions. Amend RSA 49-B:3 by inserting after paragraph VI the following new paragraph:

VII. Municipal officers shall not establish a charter commission under paragraph I sooner than 5 years after any prior charter commission has filed its final report.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
