STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Six

A RESOLUTION in recognition and support of New Hampshire’s participation in the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.

Whereas, the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) is a program of the National Science Foundation established to develop a stronger research capacity in those states not currently receiving a proportionate share of federal research moneys; and

Whereas, the state of New Hampshire presently ranks 37th nationally in federal moneys for research and development and seeks to improve its competitive standing; and

Whereas, New Hampshire formed a statewide EPSCoR committee that secured an EPSCoR planning grant in August 2004 for the purpose of advancing science and technology planning by identifying promising areas, barriers to collaboration, equipment needed, personnel required, and infrastructure needs; and

Whereas, the planning effort has established as its primary objective the building of a statewide infrastructure of people, instrumentation, and research clusters focused on advanced sensor development and application; and

Whereas, the New Hampshire EPSCoR committee is submitting a research infrastructure improvement grant to secure funding that builds on existing academic and industrial research capacities to link New Hampshire’s universities and colleges with business in a statewide collaborative; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

That the EPSCoR be commended for their efforts to advance science and technology planning in the state of New Hampshire.
