Memorializing State Representative Edgar H. Mears of Berlin

WHEREAS, we have learned with great sorrow of the death of our friend and colleague Edgar H. Mears of Berlin, who was serving his eighth term representing Coos County District #4, the city of Berlin; and

WHEREAS, Edgar H. Mears spent his entire legislative career serving on the Committee on Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services, rising to the position of Chairman of the committee during the current biennium; and

WHEREAS, Ed Mears, a man who cared mightily about workers and their jobs, was active in labor issues for much of his life, as evidenced by his service on the United Paperworkers International Union Local Executive Board for more than twenty years and as New Hampshire AFL-CIO District Vice President; and

WHEREAS, Ed Mears lived most of his life in Berlin and was a graduate of Berlin High School who served in the United States Navy and then returned to his community to work; a man who cared about the people of Berlin whom he served with energy and enthusiasm as a member of a Charter Commission, the Economic Development Corporation, the Berlin City Council and the local United Way Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Ed Mears was a man who loved and was loved by his family – wife Lucy, his daughters and grandchildren – and his many friends, a man who enjoyed music, had a bright twinkle in his eye, and loved cruisin’ with his Lucy in their red convertible; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, by the New Hampshire House of Representatives in Regular Session convened, that Edgar H. Mears be granted the highest praise and accolades for his dedicated service to his community, his state and his country, and be it further

RESOLVED, that expressions of heartfelt sympathy be extended to his family and a suitable copy of this Resolution be prepared for presentation to them.
