STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twelve

AN ACT relative to speed limits on certain residential ways.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; Alteration of Limits; Petition. Amend RSA 265:63 by inserting after paragraph V the following new paragraph:

VI. Whenever a petition satisfying the requirements of this paragraph is submitted to the commissioner of transportation, the prima facie speed limit on the way that is the subject of the petition shall be reduced to 5 miles per hour below the otherwise applicable speed limit. The petition shall be signed by a majority of owners and residents of property abutting the way. Each person signing the petition shall agree to pay a proportionate share of the costs for signage indicating the reduced speed limit. No way longer than 3 miles shall be the subject of a petition under this paragraph. The petition shall be submitted to the governing body of the town, who shall verify that it meets the requirements of this paragraph and forward the verified petition to the commissioner of transportation.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
