STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twelve
A RESOLUTION opposing federal efforts to establish minimum standards for states that allow the carrying of concealed firearms.
Whereas, on January 25, 2011, the United States Senate introduced S. 176, a bill to establish minimum standards for states that allow the carrying of concealed firearms; and
Whereas, as a state that allows the carrying of concealed firearms, the state of New Hampshire objects to the attempt by the federal government to establish minimum standards for carrying concealed firearms; and
Whereas, S. 176 would mandate that states enact a procedure that would require each applicant for a concealed firearm permit to “demonstrate good cause for requesting a concealed firearm permit,” and “demonstrate that the applicant is worthy of the public trust to carry a concealed firearm permit in public;” and
Whereas, New Hampshire has already enacted a process to grant a license to a person who wishes to carry a concealed firearm; and
Whereas, S. 176 seeks to impose a federally-mandated permit procedure that would nullify New Hampshire’s licensing procedure; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives:
That New Hampshire opposes S. 176 which seeks to impose minimum standards for states that allow the carrying of concealed firearms; and
That the clerk of the house of representatives forward copies of this resolution to the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
