AN ACT relative to high school equivalency and relative to illiteracy.

ANALYSIS

This bill replaces references to the GED certificate with “high school equivalency” and repeals a provision requiring persons between 16 and 18 years of age who cannot read and speak English to attend a special day school or evening school.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Thirteen

AN ACT relative to high school equivalency and relative to illiteracy.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 School Attendance; Compulsory Attendance by Pupils. Amend RSA 193:1, I(f)(1) to read as follows:

(1) Obtaining a [GED] high school equivalency certificate; or

2 Parents as Teachers Program. Amend RSA 193:35, I(g) to read as follows:

(g) The level of parental participant knowledge and achievement including, but not limited to [GED] high school equivalency completion, employment, and volunteerism.

3 Repeal. RSA 193:9, relative to requiring illiterate persons between 16 and 18 years of age

to attend school, is repealed.

4 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
