AN ACT relative to the number of first-year college students from New Hampshire high schools required to take remedial classes.

This bill requires the university and community college systems of New Hampshire to submit data on the number of first-year students from New Hampshire high schools who are required to take remedial classes.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fourteen

AN ACT relative to the number of first-year college students from New Hampshire high schools required to take remedial classes.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Paragraph; University System of New Hampshire; Authority of the Board of Trustees. Amend RSA 187-A:16 by inserting after paragraph XXIII the following new paragraph:

XXIV. Require educational institutions within the university system to annually submit data to the higher education commission, established in RSA 21-N:8-a, no later than 30 days after classes begin reflecting the total number of first-year students from New Hampshire high schools enrolled at an educational institution within the university system who are required to take remedial classes in English, mathematics, or both. The data shall be sorted by high school attended.

2 New Paragraph; Community College System of New Hampshire; Authority of the Board of Trustees. Amend RSA 188-F:6 by inserting after paragraph XXI the following new paragraph:

XXII. Require educational institutions within the community college system to annually submit data to the higher education commission, established in RSA 21-N:8-a, no later than 30 days after classes begin reflecting the total number of first-year students from New Hampshire high schools enrolled at an educational institution within the community college system who are required to take remedial classes in English, mathematics, or both. The data shall be sorted by high school attended.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
