HOUSE BILL 124
AN ACT relative to the implementation of new college and career readiness standards.

This bill requires the state board of education to evaluate and report on any new college and career readiness standards, and prohibits the board from implementing any such new standards until the board conducts a public hearing in each executive council district.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fifteen
AN ACT relative to the implementation of new college and career readiness standards.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 New Paragraph; Duties of State Board of Education. Amend RSA 186:11 by inserting after paragraph XXXVI the following new paragraph:
XXXVII. Implementation of College and Career Readiness Standards.
(a) The state board shall not adopt or implement new college and career readiness standards nor shall the state board direct the department of education to implement any additional standards until the state board, in consultation with the department, school districts, and chartered public schools, performs an evaluation of the new standards in comparison to current standards and other nationally-recognized standards and provides the results of such evaluation to the same, and to the chairperson of the house and senate committees with primary jurisdiction over education and to the legislative oversight committee established in RSA 193-C:7.
(b) The state board shall hold a public hearing in each executive council district to present the department’s proposed college and career readiness standards and shall take public testimony regarding the adoption of the proposed standards.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
