AN ACT relative to unfair trade practices targeting veterans.

This bill prohibits a business from charging veterans an unreasonable fee for aids or services and makes such conduct a violation of the consumer protection act.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fifteen
AN ACT relative to unfair trade practices targeting veterans.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 New Paragraph; Unfair Trade Practices Targeting Veterans. Amend RSA 358-A:2 by inserting after paragraph XVI the following new paragraph:
XVII. Charging or receiving an unreasonable fee to prepare, aid, or advise any prospective applicant, applicant, or recipient in the procurement, maintenance, or securing of any aid or services to a veteran from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the New Hampshire Office of Veterans Services, or any other public agency. For the purpose of this paragraph, an “unreasonable fee” means a fee that is exorbitant and disproportionate to the services performed. This paragraph shall not apply to attorneys licensed to practice law in New Hampshire, who are subject to the New?Hampshire Rules of Professional Conduct.
2 Effective date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
