METHODOLOGY:
This bill repeals the prospective repeal of June 30, 2018 of the first responder's critical injury benefit and provides for the benefit to continue in perpetuity. The repeal of the repeal also maintains the appropriation language allowing the governor to draw a warrant from funds not otherwise appropriated to pay any claims made. The bill will limit the benefits paid for all claimants to not exceed $500,000 in a biennium, with a total benefit per claimant not to exceed $125,000. To date, the State has made two payments to claimants: $125,000 in FY 2015 and $125,000 in FY 2016.
