ANALYSIS

 

This bill modifies the educational content of an adequate education.

 

This bill also modifies the  input-based accountability standards for technical education required for a school to demonstrate that it provides the opportunity for an adequate education.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eighteen

 

AN ACT relative to computer science and digital skills required for an adequate education.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

274:1  Substantive Educational Content of Adequate Public Education.  Amend RSA 193-E:2-a, I to read as follows:

I.  Beginning in the school year 2008-2009, the specific criteria and substantive educational program that deliver the opportunity for an adequate education shall be defined and identified as the school approval standards in the following areas:

(a)  English/language arts and reading.

(b)  Mathematics.

(c)  Science.

(d)  Social studies.

(e)  Arts education.

(f)  World languages.

(g)  Health education.

(h)  Physical education.

(i)  [Technology education, and information and communication technologies] Engineering and technologies.

(j)  Computer science and digital literacy.

274:2  Opportunity for Adequate Education; Input-based Accountability Standards.  Amend RSA 193-E:3-b, I(a) to read as follows:

(a)  A school may demonstrate that it provides the opportunity for an adequate education as set forth in RSA 193-E:2-a by establishing that it meets the following input-based school accountability standards in effect as of the effective date of this section:

(1)  English/language arts and reading as set forth in Ed 306.37.

(2)  Mathematics as set forth in Ed 306.43.

(3)  Science as set forth in Ed 306.45.

(4)  Social studies as set forth in Ed 306.46.

(5)  Arts education as set forth in Ed 306.31.

(6)  World languages as set forth in Ed 306.48.

(7)  Health education as set forth in Ed 306.40.

(8)  Physical education as set forth in Ed 306.41.

(9)  [Technology education, and information and communication technologies as set forth in Ed 306.42 and Ed 306.47] Engineering and technologies as set forth in department rules.

(10)  Computer science and digital literacy as set forth in department rules.

(11) School year as set forth in Ed 306.18.

[(11)] (12)  Minimum credits required for a high school diploma as set forth in Ed 306.27(f) and (m).

274:3  Effective Date.  This act  shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
