STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eighteen
A RESOLUTION urging Congress to repeal or amend the Apportionment Act of 1911.
Whereas, since the enactment of the Apportionment Act of 1911, Public Law 62–5, 37 Stat. 13, the ratio of population to United States House of Representatives members has collapsed from approximately 216,773:1 in 1911, to approximately 740,844:1 in 2016; and
Whereas, the United States offers less federal representation in the lower house of its federal government than all of the following countries: Russia, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and Japan; and
Whereas, the reasons for the limit of United States House seats has been overcome; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the New Hampshire house of representatives hereby calls upon its federal colleagues to urge immediate action by the United States House of Representatives to rectify the collapse in House representation ratios over the course of the last century; and
That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the house clerk to the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
