METHODOLOGY:

This bill adds court security officers and bailiffs to the definition of police officer when  determining eligibility for the $100,000 death benefit paid by the state to the family of a police officer or firefighter killed in the line of duty.  The Judicial Branch and Department of Administrative Services indicate the number of possible future instances of this occurrence are unknown, but would be $100,000 for each occurrence, therefore the total fiscal impact is indeterminable.  Under current law, between FY 2013 and FY 2017, three payments were made in FY 2013, and one payment each was made in FY 2014 and FY 2016.
