STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nineteen
A RESOLUTION encouraging media outlets not to broadcast the name or image of a suspected perpetrator of a mass shooting.
Whereas, the contagion and the Columbine effect are well documented contributors to mass shootings; and
Whereas, at least 30 percent of mass shootings are directly inspired by previous active shooter incidents; and
Whereas, following the Columbine tragedy, the perpetrators were glorified and deified by many disturbed young people and were emulated in 72 plots across our country, which contributed to the deaths of 98 people; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That media outlets, such as radio and television, act responsibly by not broadcasting the name or image of the suspected perpetrator of a mass shooting; and
That copies of this resolution be forwarded by the house clerk to the governor and the members of New Hampshire’s Congressional delegation.
