STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty

 

A RESOLUTION awarding the New Hampshire Medal of Honor to Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf of Hudson, New Hampshire.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

Whereas, RSA 110-B:81 established the New Hampshire Medal of Honor, which may be awarded on behalf of the people of the state of New Hampshire to any New Hampshire citizen who has given his or her life while in military service to protect and preserve the rights and freedoms of the people of New Hampshire; and

Whereas, Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf was a native of Hudson, New Hampshire and a 2007 graduate of Alvirne High School; and

Whereas, Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf was a Commander of the Alvirne High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and his dream was to become an Air Force pilot; and

Whereas, Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf earned a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2012; and

Whereas, Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf served with distinction as a pilot in the United States Air Force since June of 2012 and rose to the rank of Captain; and

Whereas, Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf was assigned to the 37th Bomb Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel; and

Whereas, Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf gave his life in defense of our nation when his Bombardier E-11A surveillance aircraft crashed on January 27, 2020 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

That the General Court of the state of New Hampshire hereby awards the New Hampshire Medal of Honor to United States Air Force Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf of Hudson; and

That expressions of the members of the General Court's heartfelt sympathy be extended to Captain Phaneuf’s family and loved ones; and

That copies of this resolution signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives be presented to Captain Ryan S. Phaneuf's wife, Megan E. Phaneuf, and parents Donald P. Phaneuf and Nancy A. Phaneuf, and to the New Hampshire Adjutant General.
