STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Four
AN ACT relative to fire sprinkler requirements in residential buildings.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 State Fire Code and Rules; Fire suppression or Sprinkler Systems. Amend RSA 153:5, III to read as follows:
III. The state fire code and associated rules shall not require fire suppression or sprinkler systems in detached one, or 2-family dwelling units in a structure used only for residential purposes. Fire suppression or sprinkler systems shall not be required in existing residential buildings with no more than 4 dwelling units if that building is in compliance with the state fire code including, but not limited to fire barriers, dedicated ingress and egress or secondary means of escape with emergency rescue openings and monitored fire alarm systems.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
