AN ACT relative to prohibiting metal detecting in certain areas.

This bill prohibits treasure hunting with a metal detector in areas that expose students to the risk of injury.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Four

 

AN ACT relative to prohibiting metal detecting in certain areas.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  Historic Resources; Treasure Hunting.  Amend RSA 227-C:12, II to read as follows:

II. Treasure hunting with metal detectors and dowsing rods is exempted from the restrictions of this subdivision on the following lands owned or controlled by the state, its agencies, departments, commissions, and institutions, unless an historic resource on such land has been recorded and restrictions are posted:

(a) Beaches;

(b) [Athletic fields;

(c)  School grounds;

(d)]  Perimeters of cemeteries;

[(e)] (c)  Unpaved roads;

[(f)] (d)  Within 25 feet of picnic tables and park pavilions; and

[(g)] (e)  Currently used [dumps.] landfills or transfer stations.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
