STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Five
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 New Subparagraphs; Telephone Number Conservation and Area Code Implementation Policy Principles Definitions. Amend RSA 374:59, I by inserting after subparagraph (d) the following new subparagraphs:
(e) "Overlay area codes" means additional area codes assigned to the same geographic area as an existing area code.
(f) "Geographic split" means dividing an existing area code into two or more geographic areas, each assigned a new area code.
2 New Paragraph; Telephone Number Conservation and Area Code Implementation Policy Principles. Amend RSA 374:59 by inserting after paragraph V the following new paragraph:
VI. The department of energy shall begin planning for the introduction of an additional overlay area code that would cover the entire state, similar to New Hampshire's original 603 area code. No one will be required to change their existing phone numbers. The department must work with the administrators of the North American Numbering Plan to prepare for the introduction of one or more new area codes.
3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
