1 New Section; School Dissolution; Record Retention Required. Amend RSA 189 by inserting after section 27-b the following new section:

189:27-c School Dissolution; Record Retention Required. For any school chartered by the state board of education pursuant to RSA 194-B:3-a, the department of education shall assume responsibility for the maintenance of student records when a school closes The department shall:

I. Obtain and preserve all the pupil registers consistent with RSA 187, RSA 187-a, RSA 189:27-b, as well as the definitions for any codes used.

II. Obtain and preserve complete individual high school transcripts with definitions for any codes used. The department of education shall provide certified transcripts in a timely manner and at no cost, upon a request by the student or their current guardian.

III. Certify the period of enrollment upon a request by the student or their current guardian.

IV. Ensure all former students and their guardians of record are notified of the disposition of pupil registers and high school transcripts.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
