Floor Amendment to SB 102-FN

 

Amend the title of the bill by replacing it with the following:

 

AN ACT making informational materials regarding type 1 diabetes and certain communicable diseases available on the department of education website.

 

Amend the bill by replacing all after the enacting clause with the following:

 

1  New Section; School Health Services; Informational Materials Regarding Type 1 Diabetes and Certain Communicable Diseases.  Amend RSA 200 by inserting after section 40-c the following new section:

200:40-d  Informational Materials Regarding Type 1 Diabetes and Certain Communicable Diseases.

I.  The department of education, in consultation with the department of health and human services, shall develop or identify existing informational materials meeting the requirements of paragraph II, relative to type 1 diabetes, measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox.  The informational materials shall be periodically updated as necessary, and made available to school districts by posting on the department of education’s Internet website.  Each school district shall make the informational materials from the department’s website known or otherwise accessible to the parents or guardians of the students enrolled in the school district, in a manner determined by the school district, including, but not limited to, through the district’s website or by other digital means.

II.  The informational materials may be in the form of links to existing related resources posted to the websites of any entities the department of education deems appropriate, but shall include, at minimum:

(a)  A description of type 1 diabetes, measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox;

(b)  A description of risk factors and warning signs associated with type 1 diabetes, measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox;

(c)  A recommendation that the parents or guardians consider vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox;

(d)  A recommendation that the parents or guardians of students displaying warning signs associated with type 1 diabetes should consult with the student’s primary care provider to determine if screening for type 1 diabetes is appropriate;

(e)  A description of the screening process for type 1 diabetes and the implications of test results; and

(f)  A recommendation that, following a type 1 diagnosis, parents or guardians should consult with the student’s primary care provider to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.

AMENDED ANALYSIS

 

This bill directs the department of education, in consultation with the department of health and human services, to make informational materials regarding type 1 diabetes, measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox available on the department of education's website.  The bill also directs local school districts to make the materials available to parents and students.
