Amendment to SB 21-FN

 

Amend RSA 106-B:1-a, II as inserted by section 1 of the bill by replacing it with the following:

 

II.  Applicants shall be eligible for the program if they were hired as police employees on or after July 1, 2025, and owe at least $10,000 in student loans.  Applicants deemed eligible by the department of safety shall, no later than 30 days after their first year anniversary of employment, receive a disbursement towards their student loan debt principal in the amount of $10,000 for the first 5 years they remain police employees, up to a maximum total disbursement of $40,000.  Applicants shall remain eligible for the program as long as they hold student loan debt during their first 5 years as police employees.  Applicants with less than $10,000 in student loan debt after their first anniversary of employment shall receive prorated disbursements based on their remaining student loan principal debt.  Such disbursements shall not be used to pay student loan interest.
