A RESOLUTION honoring Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

Whereas, the Franconia Ridge Trail in New Hampshire's White Mountains is known as one of the most beautiful and scenic hiking trails in the country; and

Whereas, this trail crosses several peaks named after distinguished Americans, such as Mt. Lincoln; and

Whereas, the highest, most prominent peak on Franconia Ridge, Mt. Lafayette, is named after the French patriot who came to America to help our country win its independence; and

Whereas, the third highest peak, known as Little Haystack, is not named after anyone; and

Whereas, like the Marquis de Lafayette, the Polish patriot Tadeusz Kosciuszko, came to America to join the fight for independence; and

Whereas, millions of Americans of Polish descent have played crucial and heroic roles in our nation's growth and development; and

Whereas, Poland today is a special American ally and a regional frontline bulwark against authoritarian expansion; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the New Hampshire house of representatives urges our congressional delegation to support federal action to rename Little Haystack Mountain as Mt. Kosciuszko, and that our governor be encouraged to consider executive action and a proclamation to assist the renaming process on the state level, thus raising important awareness about a key revolutionary war hero while also celebrating our compelling Polish-American heritage.
