AN ACT relative to the financial obligation of a school district concerning students expelled for committing assault against a school staff member.

This bill limits a school district's financial obligations to the continuing education of an expelled pupil to the average cost-per-pupil where the pupil is expelled as the result of committing an assault against a school staff member.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Six

 

AN ACT relative to the financial obligation of a school district concerning students expelled for committing assault against a school staff member.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  New Paragraph; Suspension and Expulsion of Pupils; School District Financial Obligation Amended.  Amend RSA 193:13 by inserting after paragraph II the following new paragraph:  

II-a.(a)  A school district's financial obligation in continuing the education of a pupil expelled as the result of the commission of an assault against a school staff member shall be limited to the average cost-per-pupil for that district.  

(b)  Nothing in this paragraph shall negate the responsibility of the parent to educate the pupil.  

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
