METHODOLOGY:

This bill would require the Department of Transportation to construct sound barriers along the I-93 southbound side between the Pillsbury Road and the I-93 Exit 4 southbound off-ramp.  The Department states the barriers are expected to be about 1,845 feet long and 25 feet high, totaling roughly 46,125 square feet, at an estimated cost of $8,071,875, based on an estimated cost of $175 per square foot. The Department states federal funding could only be used if the project meets state noise policy requirements, otherwise it would need full state or alternative funding. If federal eligibility is confirmed and the bill is enacted, the project would displace another project, or projects, currently in the Ten-Year Transportation Improvement Plan.
